Dignified vs Youthful, Soft vs Firm, Dry vs Sweet, Big vs Subtle, Austere vs Rich..

Perhaps Creamy, Nutty, Spicey, Woody or Balanced, Phenolic, Hot…
These were a few of the descriptions used by our dashing Whisky connoisseur on the evening Protea Fire & Ice Cape Town & Johnnie Walker hosted us for one of the first Women’s Whiskey Tasting. 

When I thought whiskey it used to be beautiful glasses, expensive cigars, leather furniture & dark wood in rooms hosting the most distinguished of gentleman..however this evening saw beautiful, confident women, dressed to impressive & surrounded by bottles on the best that Johnnie Walker had to offer! 

We were treated to a brief history of fermentation & whiskey & thereafter guided on howto savor this bold drink. We started with a welcome drink of Johhnie Walker Black double with ginger ale & apple juice – yum!

Fashion Friday – Diesel Concept Store V&A Waterfront

The first of many #FashionFriday posts to come!

A few weeks ago the eagerly anticipated Diesel brand chose the V&A Waterfront to debut its new retail design concept in South Africa. This new concept was designed in collaboration with Japanese architect firm Wonderwall and Diesel Artistic Director Nicola Formichetti.

Store design features include a wooden engineered floor, customized chandeliers and Foscarini lamps. Luxurious brown, black and white leather combined with industrial black metal fixtures in various finishes, perfectly highlight the contrast between antique and technologically advanced features of the store. It is the perfect expression of the brand’s alternative to luxury positioning.

The store boasts a lavish seated area for customers to admire beautifully crafted footwear and accessories. State of the art fitting rooms create a tranquil yet premium ambience where customers are free to transform themselves.

Denim, Diesel’s core product, has various dedicated sections within the store, emphasizing the quality and mastery of the brand in this category. Striking denim walls display key styles and washes of the 5 pocket range, while the newly introduced Doctor Denim table showcase a selection of denim items and allow stylists to engage with customers on the features and benefits of the product. Movement and durability come together at the Jogg Jeans section, where you will find a cutting edge crossbreed between jeans and active wear. It’s evident that there are many touchpoints where one can experience the heritage and craftsmanship of Diesel denim, it is after all the ultimate in collectable fashion.

The creative team at 4 Elements Media added a local star-studded flair to the international brand! Guests included tattoo model Shane Burnell, artist Ana Kuni and stylist Sian Bianca Moss all wearing Diesel’s latest collection as well as actress Tanya van Graan, Afternoon Express Presenters Danilo Acquisto, Jeannie D singer Jimmy Nevis, TV Presenters Katlego Maboe & Tracy-Lee Rosslind.


Italian styled canapé food was served while Fleur du Cap provided the wines, and additional beverages were provided by Grant’s Whiskey & Hunters Extreme BOLD, as an added element to the event Diesel offered live tattooing by Gareth Doye Tattoos and a barber shop by Edge for Men as part of the experience.

Stop Hunger Now, SA

Most of us have a love-hate relationship with social media, however there are many times I look at a social media platform & go, “I would’ve never known about this!” had it not been posted/tweeted/snapped or instagrammed! 

The Information Age we live in can be daunting at the best of times, overwhelming to a point of fear & snycism and more relevant & vital in everyday life than we could’ve ever imagined possible! 

So today’s post would’ve not been possible without (sounding like an acceptance speech much) a tweet about an organization called Stop Hunger Now SA !

The name alone got my attention. Then upon further investigation I did a double take when I saw Graca Machel, Chief Patron for SHNSA donning an apron & hair net, packing meals at Mandela Day. I was curious but most importantly I have a burning desire to “Be The Change”, I’m so keen to help in any way that will make a difference & this initiative is too powerful & important not to share!

Stop Hunger Now was established in USA in 1998 by Dr Ray Buchanan & is an international organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life saving aid worldwide. SHNSA started in 2009 & is a volunteer based meal packing & results oriented nutrition programme with two full time operations in Cape Town & Gauteng

The focus is on reaching the hungry and children is particular. With statistics such as 3.165 million children suffering from household hunger in SA, this initiative restores hope for hungry children in our country. 

One could donate, volunteer or host an event. I volunteered at the first ever SHNSA meal packing event in Bloubergstrand leading up to my birthday. My social media tag was “No better way to spend a Saturday than with SHNSA” and it was truly fulfilling. We met & introduced ourselves to the organizer. Thereafter watched a SHNSA movie clip done by the hilarious Suzelle DIY & before we knew it we were in the production line & ready to go!

Upon hearing the bell we were measuring, packing, sealing & eagerly awaiting the sound of the bell signaling how many meals were being packed as the clock ticked. The meals could moly to UNICEF standards and are highly nutritious. It was such fun & we got to meet so many like us, literally making a difference! Upon the final bell we looked up and had packed 60 boxes in an hour & a half which meant that 12 744 children would receive meals! It was a feeling like no other whe. I looked up at that screen…pride, humility, content, sadness & happiness, gratitude…

It’s something you should experience as words do not do it justice so I suggest you check out Stop Hunger Now SA & volunteer a few hours of your time, make it a family experience or get a group of friends together in celebration of your birthday, suggest it to HR & do it as team building with colleagues. However you decide, I urge you to just do it & know that you literally saved a life…

Our world is flat…

…a post inspired by tired feet!

(and especially before winter hits us with a vengeance!)

Over the past few weeks, the sunshiny weather is Cape Town has seen quite a few events & activations that I’ve worked on & attended, outdoors.

With each of these, outdoors being key and on-my-feet being top of mind, I’ve asked myself the question most of us ask, hours before heading out the front door – “What am I going to wear?!!!!!”

So after leaving a pile of clothing on the bed, which somewhat resembled a snow capped mountain, I found ensembles best suited to the occasions. Yay! Success!  No…not quite…what about shoes?!!!

Heels in every color & style stared at me – I could hear a little voice “say pick me, pick me” & another voice saying, “oh we will never survive the day in those!”. Hearing those voices is a topic for another day 😄 So glorious heels were not an option with the surfaces & the amount of walking to be done. Sorry Loubie baby!

Then I spotted my sneakers – it was a sigh of relief! Nike Airmax or Adidas ZX Flux are always an option. Dress up or down, they make a statement – they are trendy, comfy & look awesome! These would definitely do for a few of the more casual events but there were two that I’d need to rethink.


Just when I was ready to give up, I noticed a box peeking out from the bottom of the pile. Flats – no I couldn’t, or maybe I could?! They were percent! Fashion & comfort – now that’s a win! It was that voice again, “we love her” said my feet…if it wasn’t them then we may have a little problem 😆

Raven, A Story About Her

The beauties at 4Elements Media made my day with an invitation to the exclusive Black Gold jewellery event that showcased the much anticipated Raven Collection!

Excited was an understatement as not only was this my first event since my big move to CT but this collection is truly exquisite & I could barely wait to see the pieces in the flesh!

Exquisite, Stunning, Fierce, Beautiful, Modern, Unique, Desirable, Confident are just some of the words that followed the #BlackGoldRaven hashtag on the night.

The force behind the brand, designer Kristin Weixelbaumer celebrated the launch of her Raven Collection under her premium new brand, Black Gold at the incredible & industrial Anvl Kraft in Woodstock, Cape Town on the 17th of March 2016.

VIPs and guests mostly dressed in black & gold armed with delicious cocktails & drinks by sponsors Black Bottle Whiskey & Rose’s RDT, were drawn to the stunning Raven Collection, which was found in unique jewelry cabinets, beautifully laden over skulls, ceramic, wooden & metal objects. Eye catching prints hung from hangers off an industrial line and the Raven Collection film, a finalist at the Bokeh Film Festival, played in a cinema style area with cordless headphones and popcorn.

When we were not lusting over these designer pieces, we treated ourselves to a delectable spread of cheeses & breads, whilst eyeing the array of vintage bikes throughout this interesting venue & being entertained by DJ Tommy Gun.

When Kristin says “you can’t help notice a Raven when you find one”, she was speaking of none other than the inspiration behind the movie & shoot, actress & model Zigi Strydom. Zigi embodies the Raven Collection with her exquisite & confident look & you were instantly drawn to her presence!

Other guests that caught our eyes were singer & song writer Chad Saaiman, TV presenter & Stylist Tracy Lee-Roslind, MCSA winner Kamini Pather, Radio Presenter Tammy B, Nandi Ndlovu, features writer Glamour Magazine, blogger Samantha Taylor & many more.

A new chapter begins

In a few hours I turn the page on an old chapter & begin writing a completely new one!
The past is never far away & will be by my side as I continue writing my new pages – the bad, the sad, the good & the blessed – to help me be the best version of me!
Excited, anxious, sad, elated are only a few of the emotions I’ve been feeling for days now. Occasions are incredibly special to me – Birthdays especially!

They are a time of reflection for me. I think back to last year, my first birthday spent in CT whilst holidaying. This year though as a permanent resident of the beautiful Mother City.
It’s truly been a roller coaster year!

Studies, entrepreneurship, goodbyes, hellos, feelings of hopelessness & helplessness, love, loss of my special baby Larry, fear, failure, excitement, lessons learned & accomplishment – The life I live, the life I love!

On a personal level, I’ve always nurtured & treasured relationships but the passed year has shown me just how important it is to do so. My special day without those I love so dearly watching down on me, my family & my extended family of friends who won’t be here to party with me or wish me in person, the treasured hug from my dearest niece & mums kiss & birthday cooking (we celebrate our birthdays a day apart) all evoke bittersweet emotions – and in the same breath I’m so blessed to have my love Sean right beside me on yet another special moment in my life…What remains with me year after year, never taking people & time for granted…

On a professional level it’s been anything but easy – it’s being trying & challenging, many tears & many times I’ve wanted to turn the blank page over but I’ve vowed to take this new year I’m blessed with & put in more, take more risks & grab every opportunity presented, no matter how little or large! In my quest to be my best version of me I’m no longer afraid to ask for advice & for help. Along the way I continue to meet inspiring people & will continue to value them.

So as I get ready to write my first line of my new chapter I vow to be true to myself no matter what, to throw kindness around like confetti, to keep in mind that the opinions of others do not define me, to remind myself each day to be proud of the woman aspiring to be the best version of herself, to live, to love & to be unapologetically ME!

Enhanced hospitality
Sun City’s Cabanas hotel has just completed a holistic refurbishment which includes a refresh of the guest rooms, reception area and restaurant. This is the first major upgrade of the hotel since 2007 when the rooms were restyled to mark the hotel’s 25th anniversary.

Along with the rejuvenation of the hotel’s aesthetics, the Cabanas now boasts a complete renewed look.

“Cabanas offers guests great value while simultaneously providing them with trend-setting, world class facilities and contemporary rooms, surrounded by beautiful, lush gardens. More thrilling entertainment

Already offering an unprecedented choice of thrilling outdoor and entertainment activities in one place, Sun City has bolstered its offering for teenagers and adventurers with the recent launch of an adventure hub, Adrenalin Extreme. Adrenalin Extreme offers heart-pounding, adrenalin-pumping outdoor activities including Drift Trikes, Hovercrafts, the Accelerator and the Grizzly 4×4 Quad challenge.

Now underway is the expansion of the Valley of Waves water park to offer new exciting rides and food offerings. Changes at the Valley of Waves include the recent opening of a microbrewery-themed gastro pub, The Brew Monkey, which offers spectacular views over the tidal pool, with a choice of sitting indoors or outdoors on the deck. The menu boasts a selection of hunger-busting bar tins, monkey dogs, gourmet burgers, snack boards and craft beers. The Valley of Waves also boasts a new, expansive and fresh fast food eatery, Food Factory, with a range of affordable choices to suit every taste.

The revitalisation of the Valley of Waves includes two brand new slides. This is the first time since the opening of the waterpark in 1992, that new slides have been introduced. The new tube slide has already opened over the December holidays, with the additional slide scheduled to open towards the end of 2016.

Conferencing with a difference comes in the form of the Sun Park, a multipurpose facility for hosting lifestyle events, music festivals, product launches and other experiences. Ample and versatile, Sun Park will offer the support services of an indoor events venue with the flexibility of an outdoor space, the possibilities are endless.

On 11 January this year, the ambitious reinvention of the Entertainment Centre commenced, with the aim of creating an experiential journey. It will be home to arcade games, lazer tag, ten pin bowling and other fun-filled activities for visitors of all ages. The Entertainment Centre will also house a South African Hall of Fame honouring the country’s iconic sporting heroes and performing artists, as well as an optimised Convention Centre on the upper level.

During the closure and upgrade of the Entertainment Centre, conferences will be accommodated at the Sun Sky Village, a temporary but fully-equipped facility near Sun City’s front entrance.

Between now and June 2016, holidaymakers booking a stay at Sun City can enjoy a host of value-adds as part of the Sun City Super Stay Promotion. The longer the stay, the more value guests receive. There is always something to do at Sun City. The Valley of Waves is renowned for its wave pool and thrilling water slides which include the Temple of Courage, three super-fast tube slides and two body slides.

There are also a variety of water sports, including jet skiing, parasailing and water skiing, available at Waterworld. In addition, the resort offers a choice of sparkling pools, two aviaries, jogging trails; quad biking; archery; floodlit tennis courts, guided tours of the resort on zippy Segways, and one of the world’s longest Zip Slide – to mention just a few of the fun things to do at Sun City.

Children can enjoy the adventure playground, an animal farm and a kiddies’ mini car race track at Waterworld. Fun-filled, supervised workshops are hosted at Kamp Kwena twice a day. The programme varies to include loads of exciting activities for children. These include visits to the crocodile farm, musical games, arts and crafts, story-telling, adventures at The Maze of the Lost City, Bumper Boats, and lots more.

Arcade lovers can access the temporary Magic Company Games Arcade inside the Valley of Waves next to Food Factor. This arcade hosts a select number of the most popular games. Access to Magic Company, Food Factory and The Brew Monkey is free for all guests. Guests can enter through the left side access of the Valley of Waves which has been blocked off from the waterpark.

Sun City borders the game-rich and malaria-free Pilanesberg National Park where people can spot the Big Five on magnificent game drives and experience spectacular views of the reserve in hot air balloons.
