Dusty Rebels & The Bombshells

Dusty Rebels and The Bombshells Do Pretoria (Again)

They say the dust up north is unique. So South Africa’s premier vintage lifestyle festival will return to the north this year, to add a certain flare to another of our capital cities. Dusty Rebels and The Bombshells will bring its signature fare of 40s and 50s cars, fashion and music to 012 Central in Helen Joseph Street on 14 May 2016.

Returning to the day’s festivities are the PTown Roller Derby League doing a mini bout. DRTB icons The Blue Haired Betty and Miss Bombshell Betty 2015 – who was crowned at Dusty Rebels and The Bombshells in Cape Town on November 2015 will be attending with 4 of last year’s finalists. They will host a competition on the day for the best pinup gal, so all the bombshells are encouraged to put their best fashion foot forward.

The Betties will also be recruiting pinups for the Miss Bombshell Betty 2016 competition to be held at The Dusty Rebels and The Bombshells festival on the 12 November 2016 in Cape Town.

As usual, a number of live bands will also be in attendance, these will be released mid April so keep watch this space. Black Orchid Burlesque will perform a tantalising burlesque show, a fashion show to spice things up and the day’s entertainment will be rounded off by DJ Rockabilly Rythmn playing the finest classic tunes of the era.

Your favourite vendors will offer make-up, clothing, jewellery, helmets, a barber shop, memorabilia, food and drink.

Until next time, pour yourself a drink, put on some lipstick & head over to the 012.

Utopia at the Mall of Africa

If heaven had a shopping center, I’d imagine it would look similar to the most talked about Mall in South Africa – The Mall of Africa

Today saw the fabulous opening of this anticipated mall with everything from sand art to celebrities, from Master Chef winning meals to renowned DJs and alluring fashion to queues of shoppers for kilometers.

This impressive shopping center boasts 130 000m2 of retail space, 2.4kms of shopping for every brand your heart desires, with a design, inspired from Africa’s geological features & iconic landscapes, leaves you in total awe!

Whether walking through the Forest Walk  Court (think Congos amazing rain forest), slowing down at the Desert Court (picture desert regions in North Africa), looking to relax at the Court of Great Lakes (imagine the Great Lakes of Africa), grabbing a glass of bubbly at the Champagne Bar at the Crystal Court (picture diamonds, crystals & precious minerals), or pampering at the Oleum Court (taking inspiration from trade & oil wealth in Africa), this prestigious Mall has something to suit each & every taste.

With 6500 parking bays & 24 entrances, finding the most loved & lusted after local & international brands makes this the ultimate shopping experience. Free wifi is sure to put smiles on every shoppers face (as it did to all bloggers & media today)  & the convenience of dedicated über pick up zones is certainly a win if like me, finding the prefect parking spot is always a challenge.

You will find this R5bn mall at Lone Creek & Magwa Crescent, Waterfall City in Midrand. Stores open from Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm, Sundays & Public holidays 10am to 8pm. On that note, enjoy the long weekend shopping up a storm at the Mall of Africa & please share your thoughts on the experience & your latest purchases too with me here.

Whilst I drool over the latest at Zara Home, The Kooples and Armani Exchange, only 3 of the 300 stores at Mall of Africa, I’m thinking I like my money where I can see it..In my closet 😉

FREE FALL’IN AW16

Zando’s exclusive brand offering gets you autumn ready!
This season Zando invites you to celebrate your fashion individuality – with a pinch of off-the-runway panache! Autumn Winter 16’s sheer fashion variation has a little something for everyone, leaving nothing to be desired.

Clean Cut Perfection…
“Transparency was the hard-hitting inspiration for Free Fall’in this AW16. I wanted the aesthetic to be clean and simple but not ‘clinical’, allowing the autumnal colours to pop against the white background. We used supporting props that screamed urban chic with a modern flare.” Zeane Singer – Zando Fashion Editor

Warm berry tones pop against a playful mix of white frames, block platforms and futuristic loungers. The clean cut lines depict a baron portrait, themed to allow apparel to take focal point. The collection perfectly pairs with a pixie boot, pointed heel or brogue flatforms.

Fall Enthused…

Taking inspiration from global street style and the compelling runways of Paris, London and New York, the Zando AW16 Utopia Collection explores a fierce yet classic approach to seasonal transition. With a strong emphasis on spiced hues and faux fur with a seasonal velvet touch – textures run dense and layered.

“There is strong international influence for AW16 with a number of trends which one can easily relate to. From graphic black and white, sizzling punk, folksy tribe, military and an eighties comeback, Free Fall’in on Zando holds the key to style variety and perfect personality match.” Amanda Lepar – Senior Buyer, Zando Women’s Apparel

With a strong emphasis on brand offering expansion, AW16 was built to not only highlight a stark colourway, but looked to incorporate a rich mosaic of florals and geometric pattern in order to amplify styling capability.

From the tasselled ankle or pixie boot to a basic and most delicate court heel, lace up brogue, or pistol boot, Free Fall’in ensures something for every kind of gal out on the town or hitting the office glam from head to toe.

And Who Are You?

Zando Fashion Editor, Zeane Singer breaks down the Fall Collection into 3 prominent categories:

Borrowed from the Boys

This look is strongly inspired by international street culture. We like to think of it as hipster meets fashionista with a tomboy finish. Create the look with ripped boyfriend jeans, cleated side buckle boots, a soft white blouse topped with a smokey eye and soft nude lip.

Dark Romance

This luxurious look speaks for itself, a chic silhouette with a sultry twist. Ideal for career chasers with a full social calendar. Think lace detailed dress finished with a black leather jacket, velvet tie up heels and a burgundy wrap blouse. Add a vibrant masala lip for that added pop.

Folksy

Folksy has a fierce 1970’s influence with a slightly softer tone for that ultimate transitional changeover. This girl has a youthful spirit and playful bohemian charm. Pair your curvy fit basic skinny with a suede waterfall jacket and fringe bag. Warning! Don’t leave the house without your neckerchief or round sunnies.

Raven, A Story About Her

The beauties at 4Elements Media made my day with an invitation to the exclusive Black Gold jewellery event that showcased the much anticipated Raven Collection!

Excited was an understatement as not only was this my first event since my big move to CT but this collection is truly exquisite & I could barely wait to see the pieces in the flesh!

Exquisite, Stunning, Fierce, Beautiful, Modern, Unique, Desirable, Confident are just some of the words that followed the #BlackGoldRaven hashtag on the night.

The force behind the brand, designer Kristin Weixelbaumer celebrated the launch of her Raven Collection under her premium new brand, Black Gold at the incredible & industrial Anvl Kraft in Woodstock, Cape Town on the 17th of March 2016.

VIPs and guests mostly dressed in black & gold armed with delicious cocktails & drinks by sponsors Black Bottle Whiskey & Rose’s RDT, were drawn to the stunning Raven Collection, which was found in unique jewelry cabinets, beautifully laden over skulls, ceramic, wooden & metal objects. Eye catching prints hung from hangers off an industrial line and the Raven Collection film, a finalist at the Bokeh Film Festival, played in a cinema style area with cordless headphones and popcorn.

When we were not lusting over these designer pieces, we treated ourselves to a delectable spread of cheeses & breads, whilst eyeing the array of vintage bikes throughout this interesting venue & being entertained by DJ Tommy Gun.

When Kristin says “you can’t help notice a Raven when you find one”, she was speaking of none other than the inspiration behind the movie & shoot, actress & model Zigi Strydom. Zigi embodies the Raven Collection with her exquisite & confident look & you were instantly drawn to her presence!

Other guests that caught our eyes were singer & song writer Chad Saaiman, TV presenter & Stylist Tracy Lee-Roslind, MCSA winner Kamini Pather, Radio Presenter Tammy B, Nandi Ndlovu, features writer Glamour Magazine, blogger Samantha Taylor & many more.

An event thoroughly enjoyed by all & jewellery that’s a must!!!

Visit Black Betty Showroom, Top Floor, 53 Wale Street, Cape Town for your designer piece & contact 4 Elements Media for more info

So until next time remember Jewellery is like a biography. A story that tells the many chapters of our lives. Right now I’m on the chapter of Black Gold Raven!

Fringing with threads & heels from Edgars Free2BU

MU by Stila from Stuttafords

Clutch & jewellery by Colette

A POP of colour!

Think luscious lips…long sexy lashes…flawless skin with a burst of colour on your cheeks.
A photographer. An incredibly talented make up artist. Bubbly & strawberries. Smiles all round. The full red carpet treatment!
You wouldn’t be faulted for thinking a model is being primed for a major photoshoot…except the models were lucky Grazia Magazine readers who won the opportunity to experience a morning of beauty with Clinique & Grazia!

I made my way to the Clinique counter at Edgars Sandton City & was welcomed by Clinique consultants and Clinique & Grazia representatives.
I waited in anticipation whilst mingling with the other winners, surrounded by a myriad of colour whilst sipping on sweet sparkling beverages & snacking on strawberries.

Image5

Before long I was asked to take a seat at the cosmetics counter for my beauty experience to commence!
I felt like a kid in a candy store…and the lighting, atmosphere & pops of colour further enhanced that excitement!

My consultant, the gorgeous Sipho cleansed my face using the Take The Day Off Cleansing Milk, which left my skin feeling smooth & soft. An apt name as I felt like Id taken the day off with all this pampering! This cleanser is great on all skin types & what’s best is that it’s residual free.
The Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion further added to my skin feeling smooth & supple. This is a lovely winter product as it keeps the skin moisturized all day & can be used under a night cream for very dry skin needing extra pampering.
Sipho chatted with me, informing me on every product he was using & also answered all the questions I had for him…I had many 😉
He proceeded to prime my skin for the foundation application, using the Superprimer, followed by the Even Better Makeup liquid foundation with sunscreen. The foundation felt incredible on my skin, light & natural, which I loved instantly. It’s on my list of “Must Haves”.
The Clinique Blushes left my cheekbones glowing but still lovely for a day time look.
The Extreme Volume Mascara gave my lashes a longer more dramatic look. Highly recommended!
My look ended with a Quickliner and two pops of pink for my lips. As someone who’s been afraid of colour on my lips as I’ve never quite found a colour to suit my skin tone, I threw caution to the wind & we combined the Nude Pop & Cherry Pop lipsticks to give me a colour that looked delectable 🙂

Voila! I looked my look – I couldn’t believe the transformation! Shows what great make up & expert application can do for ones look!

Clinique2

I finished off my experience by chatting to Sipho about contouring & we played with the Chubby Stick Sculpting Countour & Sculpting Highlight. If you want to perfect the look & Countour like a pro, you have got to try these! My “Must Haves” list grows longer by the day 🙂

Contour like a pro!

Contour like a pro!

We were all treated to stunning goodie bags & magazines, courtesy of our hosts for the morning. The products inside…one word – fabulous…just as the beauty experience…

Thank you Grazia & Clinique

Thank you Grazia & Clinique

I learnt not to be afraid of colour but rather embrace it & use it to further enhance my features & my confidence! Make up can be fun, sexy and expressive – make it your best friend!

Nadia

My OOTD was my STAR knit from Identity, Leather leggings from YDE, OTK boots from Aldo, crossover bag from Colette Hayman and finished off with MU by Clinique!

Until next time…people will stare, make it worth their while!

However if I was forced to choose just two products …
