Happy New Year, on the 9th of Feb!

Happy New Year! Yes I know, it’s the 9th of Feb 😉
When January the 1st approaches we generally take stock of our lives, we reflect, we regret, we decide…
Why wait for the 1st? If you’d like to make a change & it’s important enough then why wait for the 1st of January – start now!

Taking stock, reflecting & making decisions about ourselves is an integral part of growing & should have no time stamp or expiry date.
I had a profound blog – in my mind – that I was going to put finger to keypad a month ago but then…life happened & it made me realise, why the time stamp?!

Every morning presents a new opportunity to start over. It offers a new beginning & is filled with hope!
Seize the day & make it happen – today is as good a day as any!

*Tears up NY resolutions & tosses it into the bin*
I’ve got no time for that – there’s an empire waiting to be built 🙂

Here’s to me, here’s to you, here’s to opportunity & hope – Happy Everyday!
Until next time remember, although no one can go back & make a brand new start, anyone can start from now & make a brand new ending…

Preppy at the Patisserie

Unsponsored post, a craving from the past!

I’ve yet to taste a better Rainbow Cake anywhere in the world than at the deliciously decadent Belles Patisserie! It’s a sunny but chilly day in Cape Town today & the craving for a slice jolted my memory…
Looking back at my invitation to attend the launch of the Clearwater branch had left my mouth watering & I RSVPd quicker than you could say Oreo Cupcake!

The award winning Belles looked incredible – trademark chandeliers & classy decor, viennoiseries, cakes & sweet treats to satisfy everyone & even a skinny menu for the health conscious.
Now if you had to ask me what time is champagne time…we couldn’t be friends 😉 so I decided Id do a champagne breakfast whilst waiting for my fellow bloggers & I was thrilled to have been served a glass of one of my favorites – Krone.

A bubbly & warm welcome was received by all the guests to celebrate the opening of the Clearwater branch. The waiters were full of smiles & even stopped to pose for pics whilst carrying trays of creamy cappuccinos & following these by delicious winter soups to keep the chill away.
We were treated to trays of snacks from artisan breads to prawn skewers & of course no meal is complete without dessert!
Chocolate & raspberries treats had me in my element!!!

The sweet got even sweeter when Mr South Africa, Armand du Plessis graced us with his presence! Such a incredibly friendly & humble human, making a difference with his support for Deskbags – have a look at his website & see if you can help too!

#YouChoose

This morning I felt a bit bleh! Homesick, missing family, friends & familiarity…

I then thought about a story that had been told to me when I was in school – A Native American Cherokee Story : Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.

He said, “My son, the battle is between two wolves inside us all.

“One is Evil – It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

“The other is Good – It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: “Which wolf wins?”

The old Cherokee simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Can one simply choose to be happy?

I believe whether consciously or on a subconscious level, we have that power…I’d love to hear your thoughts?

Thursdays Thought

A little share with my readers on this beautiful Thursday…

I’ve tons of ideas & posts to share however am in the midst of settling into our new home & in a new city, with my lovely man & our three fur babies!

Watch this space as I share my experiences – Kwa-Zulu Natal girl goes to Jozi & now settling in Cape Town!

Until after all the unpacking a done 😉

Its a juggling act!

So last night, on the night of the Glamour Awards there were no fancy spots to check out or a #OOTD whilst I wrote this – It was my D&G pjs (no not that D&G, my David & Goliath ones), chai, my fur babies & trusty iPad, along with some motivation, from me to you!

A year ago when I decided (with a lot of persuasion 😉 from my amazing man) I was going to follow my passion & pursue my events dream, I knew it was going to be tough, and trust me, it’s been tough…but I can assure you the experience thus far continues to teach me, enlighten me & push me in the direction of turning my every dream into a reality…

It’s a juggling act, trying to balance entrepreneurship, studying & racing against time, with the pending move from My City (loving this track by Toya Delazy & Cassper Nyovest) to the Mother City!

It can be overwhelming but the trick is to remember “How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time!” So one step at a time & one day at a time, when you’re feeling overwhelmed & under pressure with deadlines & exams looming & all that your glorious life has to throw at you.

According to Entrepreneur Magazine, we are working harder, sleeping less & have more stress in our lives than ever before.

I’ve found that preparation is the key – whether you make notes in a diary (see Typo for the cutest ones) or electronically on your iPad – Make notes – so you don’t forget important stuff when it all becomes manic. A to-do list is not overrated, I find it’s necessary.

Time management is just as important. Sure load-shedding or traffic jams sometimes throw a spanner into the works (ah the petrolhead that is me – I think my next blog should be on something motor related) but managing your time properly will actually help you maximize productivity in the hours of your day. It will help you find the time you need for your studies or help you with scheduling those meetings, updating your website or social media platforms.

Keep distractions to a minimum. Our world is a digital one so mobile phones & social media, the buzz words, are necessary. You can however always turn your phone onto “do not disturb” when warranted & prioritize –  if you don’t need to type an urgent post onto Face Book or Twitter or share that picture on Instagram, don’t. Finish a task & then “reward” yourself with some personal posting, updating Face Book or adding a few new pins on Pinterest.

It’s difficult for me to keep my furry distractions away from me…they always want to sleep exactly where my keyboard should be…we won’t even discuss the mouse 😉

Stay hydrated, keep a bottle of fresh water at your workspace (Consol have the coolest grip & go bottles & going green is cool so get one today!) Open a window instead of the aircon. Your skin will love you for it!

Get up & walk around the office or go outside to stretch those legs a bit. Sitting for long periods of time is not healthy & whilst outside taking a time out, you could come up with your next best idea!

It’s the little things that help keep you energized & raring to tackle your projects.

Most importantly though, relax & give 100% of your attention to each task individually as opposed to 50% on 2 tasks concurrently. I don’t believe in multitasking… It’s debatable, however my opinion.

Remember the goal, work smart, focus & believe…You can achieve it all, if you want it badly enough!

Please feel free to share your tips on juggling with me 🙂

Until next time, I leave you with these words from Harry Potter “Working hard is important, but there is something that matters even more, Believing In Yourself”

Its a juggling act being a student & entrepreneur amidst a move! Tonight I have my essentials :)

Ps. No Elephants were harmed in the making of this blog 😉

Celebrations continue…

You now know I love celebrating…my birthday is one of the occasions I most look forward to each year, no matter how young 😉

It’s a time when I most profoundly reflect on the past, my relationships, my career, the highlights, the lowlights, my experiences & all the memories made.

Not only is the reflection on days gone by, however also on where I am at this moment in my life & the sheer excitement of what lies ahead!

My amazing partner thought I should begin my new year in Cape Town (our soon-to-be home) & on my special day I found myself staring at the ocean, taking in the sights, smells & sounds of this most vibrant city. Before I knew it, I was whisked away to The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, for what I can only describe as celestial…

Upon arrival at this world class Spa, with international accolades longer than my arm, the pampering began!

The professionalism from my reception, to the change room, from choosing my music to interacting with my consultant, from one treatment to the next, was on another level!

My aromatherapy massage was divine & left me feeling invigorated yet totally relaxed. It is a treatment that I would recommend to anyone that wants to de stress & ease a bit of tension, or just feel pampered – anyone that wants the benefits of a massage but not necessarily with the intensity of a treatment such as a Deep Tissue massage as an example.

I was thrilled to see the Dermalogica range of products in the Spa – being a huge fan of the range – so I looked forward to facial treatment. An hour later after my chosen Aromatic Facial, my skin felt refreshed & hydrated. I felt like a proverbial “new woman” – pampered, light, refreshed & loved!

What a way to ring in my new year!

A light lunch followed at the Leopard Bar. We enjoyed the scrumptious cuisine (try the Oriental Platter for the not-so hungry but still substantial) out on the terrace with the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean & of course a few Pink Mojitos.

The Twelve Apostles certainly lives up to its known image – an incredibly stylish & sophisticated, one of its kind, world class Hotel & Spa,that is sure to impress even the most discerning visitor.

The breathtaking Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa

I continued to celebrate & take in the beauty that the Mother City has to offer by ending a most memorable birthday with dinner at The Bungalow Restaurant & Lounge in Clifton. The view, the ambiance, the food & drinks is summed up in one word – WOW

Food & drinks are fabulous. We ordered the sushi & wine (for me) & the calamari & craft beer (for my man) & neither disappointed!

The vibe was a lovely mix of clientele – groups of friends, colleagues, girls night out, families & couples.

The fashion is trendy, plain, stylish, comfortable, Choo or Havaianas! I didn’t feel over or under dressed in my summery Sissy Boy dress & heels (from Sissy Boy & Stuttafords). I added a touch of sparkle to my outfit with my stunning Swarovski necklace (available at Spilhaus) & ended off with a spritz of my favorite fragrance, Dolce by D&G (try Red Square), all spoils from my love – he certainly does have good taste (not biased at all) – maybe time to get him involved in my blog with a few notes on his suggestions for the perfect gifts, from a mans point of view.

Watching the sunset and toasting to another year of blessings & opportunity with a special person is a memory etched in my mind & one that I will no doubt be reflecting on at my next special day…

Until next time…Always remember life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away…

Racing against time in stilettos…

Dont you just feel like there are times in life when you can hear the tick tock of the giant clock that is life?

The tick tock reminding you of another year passing by, the tick tock to payday or the tick tock to the launch of that AW2015 collection (Woolworths have outdone themselves so make sure to check them out & whilst you on the lookout for stunning threads, dont forget to pop into Nicci Boutique)…

My race against time, (in my Christian Louboutins naturally – try Apsley Group for a pair) started late last year when I heard the tick tock of our (My love and our 3 furbabies) pending move to the awe that is the Mother City!

This is the very reason I share my first ever blog with you. Its something Ive always wanted to do, but just never got down to doing, until today. As I hear the tick tock, I realise, if not now, then when?!

Excited, nervous, happy, sad & scared are just some of the emotions that fill me when I think of this change in lanes.

I suddenly gained a new perspective on life and its length…clocks & watches too! (Visit Skagen to view their latest range in watches)

In my race against time I made a list of the places I must visit before the move & I hope to share my experiences with you after visiting them.

For now though, check out these hot spots in Jozi :

The Steamworks Gastropub

Social On Main

Beerhouse

Anti Est

Vicky Christinas

Craft

The Goodluck Club

This tick tock is something that every single one of us faces each day. I prefer to face it stilettos some days & other days, well just a pair of Chucks will do!

If you are racing this race too, keep moving & keep experiencing…
