Utopia at the Mall of Africa

If heaven had a shopping center, I’d imagine it would look similar to the most talked about Mall in South Africa – The Mall of Africa

Today saw the fabulous opening of this anticipated mall with everything from sand art to celebrities, from Master Chef winning meals to renowned DJs and alluring fashion to queues of shoppers for kilometers.

This impressive shopping center boasts 130 000m2 of retail space, 2.4kms of shopping for every brand your heart desires, with a design, inspired from Africa’s geological features & iconic landscapes, leaves you in total awe!

Whether walking through the Forest Walk  Court (think Congos amazing rain forest), slowing down at the Desert Court (picture desert regions in North Africa), looking to relax at the Court of Great Lakes (imagine the Great Lakes of Africa), grabbing a glass of bubbly at the Champagne Bar at the Crystal Court (picture diamonds, crystals & precious minerals), or pampering at the Oleum Court (taking inspiration from trade & oil wealth in Africa), this prestigious Mall has something to suit each & every taste.

With 6500 parking bays & 24 entrances, finding the most loved & lusted after local & international brands makes this the ultimate shopping experience. Free wifi is sure to put smiles on every shoppers face (as it did to all bloggers & media today)  & the convenience of dedicated ΓΌber pick up zones is certainly a win if like me, finding the prefect parking spot is always a challenge.

You will find this R5bn mall at Lone Creek & Magwa Crescent, Waterfall City in Midrand. Stores open from Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm, Sundays & Public holidays 10am to 8pm. On that note, enjoy the long weekend shopping up a storm at the Mall of Africa & please share your thoughts on the experience & your latest purchases too with me here.

Whilst I drool over the latest at Zara Home, The Kooples and Armani Exchange, only 3 of the 300 stores at Mall of Africa, I’m thinking I like my money where I can see it..In my closet πŸ˜‰

When you open your inbox and that emotive four lettered red word we all love flashes before your very eyes, it can only mean one thing SALE!!!!!!!!

Now who doesn’t love a good sale?!!! Apart from the H&M X Balmain sale, sales in South Africa are nothing like a scene out of “Confessions of a Shopaholic“, so with the weekend just over the horizon I thought I’d share a few of the April deals with you!

Nine West is giving you 30% off all Handbags & Wallets until the 10th of April. I don’t need to tell you how gorgeous & well crafted their products are & it would make the perfect spoil or gift!

The Body Shop is a big favorite of mine & with the lack of cruelty free skincare in SA, I’ve recently started using their range & am loving it. They have a 30% off for 3 days only sale so head along for the perfect pamper for you, great bachelorette ideas, or baby shower pamper for the mom to be.
If you’re working on your wanderlist like I am then look no further than Qatar Airways for their 20% off 58 of your favorite destinations. No excuse not to get another stamp on your passport!

Truworths is a trusted name in SA for many years. I’ve always liked their Inwear Range & own a few of the colorful Ginger Mary pieces. It’s the perfect time to add to my cupboard with their REAL Sale now on!

Spree is your must for all occasions! You can snatch up SA designer pieces at sale prices. Their 3rd birthday sale offers up to 50% off!!! I’m smiling from ear to ear knowing I will have my little paws on a Gert-Johan Coetzee gown very soon!

Steve Madden is offering the shoe lovers a buy one & get 50% off your second purchase until Sunday. Their brand is a firm favorite here in SA & in my closet too so spoil yourself, life’s short, get a pair in every color!

Identity stocks some greatly priced items that are perfect for weekends & varsity days. With their sale now on, you can stock up without buyers remorse or breaking the bank.

On that note, happy shopping lovelies!

A new chapter begins

In a few hours I turn the page on an old chapter & begin writing a completely new one!
The past is never far away & will be by my side as I continue writing my new pages – the bad, the sad, the good & the blessed – to help me be the best version of me!
Excited, anxious, sad, elated are only a few of the emotions I’ve been feeling for days now. Occasions are incredibly special to me – Birthdays especially!

They are a time of reflection for me. I think back to last year, my first birthday spent in CT whilst holidaying. This year though as a permanent resident of the beautiful Mother City.
It’s truly been a roller coaster year!

Studies, entrepreneurship, goodbyes, hellos, feelings of hopelessness & helplessness, love, loss of my special baby Larry, fear, failure, excitement, lessons learned & accomplishment – The life I live, the life I love!

On a personal level, I’ve always nurtured & treasured relationships but the passed year has shown me just how important it is to do so. My special day without those I love so dearly watching down on me, my family & my extended family of friends who won’t be here to party with me or wish me in person, the treasured hug from my dearest niece & mums kiss & birthday cooking (we celebrate our birthdays a day apart) all evoke bittersweet emotions – and in the same breath I’m so blessed to have my love Sean right beside me on yet another special moment in my life…What remains with me year after year, never taking people & time for granted…

On a professional level it’s been anything but easy – it’s being trying & challenging, many tears & many times I’ve wanted to turn the blank page over but I’ve vowed to take this new year I’m blessed with & put in more, take more risks & grab every opportunity presented, no matter how little or large! In my quest to be my best version of me I’m no longer afraid to ask for advice & for help. Along the way I continue to meet inspiring people & will continue to value them.

So as I get ready to write my first line of my new chapter I vow to be true to myself no matter what, to throw kindness around like confetti, to keep in mind that the opinions of others do not define me, to remind myself each day to be proud of the woman aspiring to be the best version of herself, to live, to love & to be unapologetically ME!

Celebrations continue…

You now know I love celebrating…my birthday is one of the occasions I most look forward to each year, no matter how young πŸ˜‰

It’s a time when I most profoundly reflect on the past, my relationships, my career, the highlights, the lowlights, my experiences & all the memories made.

Not only is the reflection on days gone by, however also on where I am at this moment in my life & the sheer excitement of what lies ahead!

My amazing partner thought I should begin my new year in Cape Town (our soon-to-be home) & on my special day I found myself staring at the ocean, taking in the sights, smells & sounds of this most vibrant city. Before I knew it, I was whisked away to The Twelve Apostles Hotel & Spa, for what I can only describe as celestial…

Upon arrival at this world class Spa, with international accolades longer than my arm, the pampering began!

The professionalism from my reception, to the change room, from choosing my music to interacting with my consultant, from one treatment to the next, was on another level!

My aromatherapy massage was divine & left me feeling invigorated yet totally relaxed. It is a treatment that I would recommend to anyone that wants to de stress & ease a bit of tension, or just feel pampered – anyone that wants the benefits of a massage but not necessarily with the intensity of a treatment such as a Deep Tissue massage as an example.

I was thrilled to see the Dermalogica range of products in the Spa – being a huge fan of the range – so I looked forward to facial treatment. An hour later after my chosen Aromatic Facial, my skin felt refreshed & hydrated. I felt like a proverbial “new woman” – pampered, light, refreshed & loved!

What a way to ring in my new year!

A light lunch followed at the Leopard Bar. We enjoyed the scrumptious cuisine (try the Oriental Platter for the not-so hungry but still substantial) out on the terrace with the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean & of course a few Pink Mojitos.

The Twelve Apostles certainly lives up to its known image – an incredibly stylish & sophisticated, one of its kind, world class Hotel & Spa,that is sure to impress even the most discerning visitor.

I continued to celebrate & take in the beauty that the Mother City has to offer by ending a most memorable birthday with dinner at The Bungalow Restaurant & Lounge in Clifton. The view, the ambiance, the food & drinks is summed up in one word – WOW

Food & drinks are fabulous. We ordered the sushi & wine (for me) & the calamari & craft beer (for my man) & neither disappointed!

The vibe was a lovely mix of clientele – groups of friends, colleagues, girls night out, families & couples.

The fashion is trendy, plain, stylish, comfortable, Choo or Havaianas! I didn’t feel over or under dressed in my summery Sissy Boy dress & heels (from Sissy Boy & Stuttafords). I added a touch of sparkle to my outfit with my stunning Swarovski necklace (available at Spilhaus) & ended off with a spritz of my favorite fragrance, Dolce by D&GΒ (try Red Square), all spoils from my love – he certainly does have good taste (not biased at all) – maybe time to get him involved in my blog with a few notes on his suggestions for the perfect gifts, from a mans point of view.

Watching the sunset and toasting to another year of blessings & opportunity with a special person is a memory etched in my mind & one that I will no doubt be reflecting on at my next special day…

Until next time…Always remember life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away…
